CLASSES FOR JUSTICE AGENCIES

CIVIL SYSTEM ORIENTATION     (Download Manuals)

This class is for justice agency personnel who need access to Harris County Civil and Family District court records. Participants learn to inquire using case numbers, party names, attorney names and bar numbers. Available information includes case summary, court activities, documents filed, service requests, setting history, court dockets, new cases filed and other data.

This class is taught at least once a month, on the first Wednesday morning, and at other times as needed.

CRIMINAL SYSTEM ORIENTATION     (Download Manuals)

This class is for justice agency personnel who need access to the Harris County Criminal system. The Criminal System contains records about class A and B misdemeanor cases filed in Harris County Criminal Courts and felony cases filed in Harris County Criminal District Courts. It also contains information about the parties to those cases.

Additionally, this class provides an introduction to the JIMS computer system and the computer keyboard. Participants learn how to inquire on Harris County criminal records using names, Harris County system person numbers (SPNs), case numbers and main ID numbers. Security and privacy regulations are also discussed.

This class is taught every Thursday morning, except during holidays, and at other times as needed. This class provides 4 hours of TCLEOSE credit for peace officers.

3807 - TCIC/NCIC TRAINING     (Download Manuals)

3807 is the 8-hour, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) course for criminal justice personnel who need to access Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) records. The JIMS course covers transactions programmed by JIMS. We do not cover TLETS transactions.

TCIC and NCIC provide an index of theft reports, warrants, missing persons reports and other criminal justice information. Additionally, users learn how to inquire on DPS driving records and Motor Vehicle Department automobile registration records.

This class is available only to Harris County agencies and to those agencies that access TCIC/NCIC through JIMS. Other agencies are trained by DPS instead of JIMS. Non-county agencies may schedule a maximum of 5 people per class.

This class is taught at least once a month, generally on the second Wednesday, and at other times as needed. This class provides 8 hours of TCLEOSE credit for peace officers.

D. A. INTAKE MANAGEMENT (DIM) ORIENTATION  and JUVENILE OFFENDER TRACKING (JOT) ORIENTATION     (Download Manuals)

In this class participants learn how to file charges against adults and juveniles in Harris County and how to inquire on information in the system. Information available in DIM includes filing officer, summary of facts, bond amount, current court assignment and case number.

The class is scheduled when at least 6 justice employees need it. This class provides 4 hours of TCLEOSE credit for peace officers.

VEHICLE LICENSE/NAME (VLN), ADDRESS CROSS-REFERENCE (ADX), MESSAGE (MSG) SUBSYSTEMS     (Download Manuals)

This class combines instruction about the VLN, ADX and MSG subsystems. VLN allows users to inquire on automobile registration information in a variety of ways. Inquiries can be made by name, tag number, address, year, make, style, and/or VIN. Inquiries can also be made on partial names and numbers. The ADX subsystem allows users to cross-reference names, addresses and phone numbers. Attendees of this class will also be cleared for the Message subsystem which allows JIMS users to send and receive e-mail.

The class is scheduled when at least 6 justice employees need it. The VLN, ADX and MSG class provides 2.5 hours of TCLEOSE credit for peace officers.

TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE (TDCJ) ORIENTATION     (Download Manuals)

This class provides training on four Texas Department of Criminal Justice systems. Students learn how to inquire on individuals who are or have been under TDCJ supervision.

Operators and their terminals must be cleared prior to enrollment in the class. Submit a request for TDCJ access application form and a TDCJ non-disclosure agreement (both available from JIMS) prior to enrollment.

This class is generally taught on the second Tuesday afternoon of every month. The TDCJ class provides 3 hours of TCLEOSE credit for peace officers.

ONLINE OFFENSE REPORTING (OLO) ORIENTATION     (Download Manuals)

This class is for justice agency personnel and provides training on entering Harris County offense reports into the CAD/OLO system including all phases of an offense report: the initial report, persons, suspects and property involved, synopsis and narrative information and supplemental reports. 

This class is held on the 3rd Friday of every month and offers 6 hours of TCLEOSE credit for peace officers.

SETCIC ORIENTATION     (Download Manuals)

This class provides an overview of the Southeast Texas Crime Information Center (SETCIC) open warrant system. The entry class covers how to enter, modify, cancel and clear warrants from the system. The inquiry class covers name inquiries, main ID number inquiries and placing locates on warrants issued by other agencies. Entry operators are required to attend both classes.

Only SETCIC member agencies may schedule personnel for SETCIC classes, and only full-service SETCIC agencies may send employees to the entry class.

SETCIC entry and inquiry are generally taught on the third Tuesday afternoon of the month, and at other times as needed. The SETCIC warrant inquiry class provides 2 hours of TCLEOSE credit for peace officers.

PAWNSHOP SYSTEM ORIENTATION     (Download Manuals)

This class provides an overview of the SETCIC pawnshop system. In the entry class, trainees how to enter information from pawn tickets collected by their agency. In the inquiry class, trainees learn how to access pawnshop records entered by participating SETCIC agencies.

Only SETCIC member agencies may schedule personnel for the pawnshop classes.

Pawnshop entry and inquiry are generally taught on the third Tuesday of the month and at other times as needed. Pawnshop inquiry class provides 2 hours of TCLEOSE credit for peace officers.

GANG-RELATED INFORMATION TRACKING SYSTEM (GRITS) ORIENTATION

The GRITS subsystem contains data about the various criminal gangs operating within the jurisdiction of SETCIC member agencies. In the entry class, participants learn how to enter gang-related data into the system. Information about gangs, gang members, colors, clothing, tattoos, vehicles, weapons, hangouts, turf, and criminal incidents is available to users who attend the GRITS inquiry class.

Only SETCIC member agencies approved for GRITS access may enroll students in GRITS classes.

GRITS is generally offered on the second Tuesday of the month and at other times as needed. The GRITS Entry class offers 3 hours of TCLEOSE credit for peace officers. The GRITS Inquiry class offers 2 hours of TCLEOSE credit for peace officers.

CLASSES FOR SUBSCRIBERS

Subscribers are private companies and individuals who pay for access to the public records stored in JIMS. Only subscribers who have executed a contract with Harris County may attend JIMS training classes.
